Position Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist I/II / Advanced Speech-Language Pathologist I/II is responsible for delivering high-quality speech and language therapy services predominantly to a Native American population. This position involves the rehabilitation of patients with a range of developmental, cognitive, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities through medically-based speech therapy for both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assessments and interpret evaluations and test results for patients of all ages, from birth to geriatric.
• Develop and implement treatment plans based on physician referrals or consultations, setting realistic therapy goals tailored to patients' abilities, needs, and diagnoses.
• Adjust therapy plans as necessary based on patient progress.
• Document patient assessments, treatment, follow-up, and discharge in electronic health records.
• Design and implement therapy activities aligned with patient goals and needs.
• Educate patients, families, and staff on speech-language procedures and home programs to facilitate the carry-over of therapeutic practices into daily life.
• Provide specialty services including but not limited to swallowing evaluations (VFSS or MBS), Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), cognitive treatment, voice therapy, and pediatric speech/language therapy.
• Lead specialty clinics, including geriatric and assistive technology/adaptive equipment evaluations and treatments.
• Participate in the direction and development of speech therapy services, focusing on quality improvement, risk management, and safety compliance.
• Ensure adherence to federal and state speech therapy certification regulations and uphold the standards put forth by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.
• Facilitate training and educational in-services for students and staff.
• Collaborate with the Physical Rehabilitation team and other healthcare professionals as needed.
• Complete other duties as assigned, maintaining compliance with medical staff credentialing requirements.

Necessary Qualifications

Education: A Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a program accredited by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA).

Licensure:

• A valid and unrestricted Speech-Language Pathology license from the Arizona Department of Health or comparable licensing authority.
• Current certification of clinical competence in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA.

Certification: Must maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association throughout employment.

Experience: A minimum of two years of clinical experience as a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, including pediatric and adult treatment, particularly in dysphagia and neuro-related conditions.
