Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN - Surgery Nurse Manager for a 26-week travel assignment in Alaska, requiring OR and surgical services management experience along with an active Alaska RN license.

Details

  • Surgical Services Department leadership role overseeing the OR, Outpatient Surgical Services, Anesthesia, and PACU
  • Manages both clinical and non-clinical staff including OR nurses, anesthesia staff, pre-op providers, and OR support staff
  • Coordinates scheduling of visiting specialists for the OR
  • Day shift schedule (specific hours to be discussed with manager)
  • Cerner EHR used; experience preferred
  • 26-week contract

Requirements

  • Active Alaska RN license in good standing required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience required
  • Minimum 2 years of surgical services management experience (surgery center or equivalent) required
  • BSN required; MSN or Master's degree in healthcare or Business Administration preferred
  • CNOR certification preferred; CSSM certification preferred (or attainment within 6 months)
  • Knowledge of AORN Guidelines and Perioperative Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice required
  • Knowledge of electronic health record systems required; Cerner preferred
  • Knowledge of fiscal management, budgets, reimbursement, coding, and claims processing desired
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Responsible for fiscal, material, and human resource management of the Surgical Services Department
  • Develops and implements clinical outcome measures for quality improvement, cost and complication reduction, and evidence-based practice
  • Interprets, implements, and monitors TJC, state, and federal regulations pertaining to department functions
  • Must arrive with documentation of required competencies including: IV/Central Line Site Care, Fall Precautions, Age-Specific Competencies, Abuse/Neglect, Pain Management, Restraints and Seclusion, End of Life, Blood Transfusions, and current BLS
  • A medication calculation test (adult and pediatric) is administered upon arrival before beginning floor duties
  • Orientation is held on Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Facility is located in a remote area; hospital-provided housing is available and strongly recommended
  • Housing consists of shared units with shared common spaces and private bedrooms; male or female units only; no dogs allowed; traveler coordinates housing directly with the facility
  • Flight reimbursement is available (economy class only); detailed flight and luggage receipts must be submitted to American Traveler for reimbursement processing
  • Flight itinerary must be submitted at least one week before start date; the facility will assist with airport pickup upon arrival but not on departure
  • Return transportation is provided by the facility at assignment end, except in cases of policy violations, falsification of application, fighting, unexcused absences exceeding three consecutive scheduled workdays, or voluntary removal
