Job Opportunity Position Summary

The Mammographer will perform imaging examinations across all patient age groups, from newborns to geriatrics, contributing to the efficient operations of the radiology department while ensuring quality and continuity of patient care. This role requires specific training in mammography to provide exceptional patient care and may involve taking on receptionist or clerical duties as needed.

Position Responsibilities
  • Corroborate patient clinical history with procedures, ensuring appropriate follow-ups for mammography, lung cancer screenings, bone density, and select sonography exams.
  • Assess patient conditions, evaluate the potential for pregnancy, maintain patient safety, and properly use restraints/support devices as necessary.
  • Make informed decisions regarding imaging evaluations by reviewing charts, gathering pertinent lab values, and collaborating with radiologists and attending physicians as required.
  • Prepare patients for procedures by providing clear instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Demonstrate competency in utilizing all required imaging equipment, completing equipment start-up, shut-down, and quality control as necessary.
  • Select appropriate protocols within imaging equipment for optimal results.
  • Position patients to effectively demonstrate the anatomic area of interest while respecting their comfort and ability.
  • Immobilize patients as needed and follow provider orders for the use of restraints.
  • Verify informed consent and assist the radiologist or medical provider during procedures, applying aseptic surgical techniques when required.
  • Perform examinations accurately and efficiently, adjusting to scheduling changes, handling interruptions, and completing assignments per departmental procedures.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality and manipulate display parameters as necessary.
  • Transfer imaging data to digital equipment (PACS) and maintain appropriate archival storage.
  • Initiate basic life support actions when necessary and provide patient education.
  • Assist in maintaining patient records while respecting confidentiality and established policies.
  • Take responsibility for assigned areas, reporting operational or equipment malfunctions to supervisors.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new employees and healthcare professionals, including clinical instruction as needed.
  • Engage in the department’s quality assessment and improvement plan and may be responsible for specific quality control duties.
  • Maintain knowledge of and adhere to universal precautions.
  • Collaborate respectfully with colleagues, valuing their strengths and contributions to superior patient care.
  • Perform clerical duties as needed to ensure complete coverage of department positions.
  • Proactively assist in training and developing other staff members and accept additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
  • Maintain certification through continuing education, staying informed about updates in the imaging field.
  • Exercise professional judgment in service performance while upholding medical ethics.
  • Perform imaging procedures to accurately depict cross-sectional anatomical images for interpretation.
  • Advocate for routine breast cancer screenings for patients.
Position Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist program with specialized training in mammography preferred.
  • Current registration with ARRT (R)(M) or equivalent required.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Two years of post-graduation experience preferred.
  • Initial training in digital mammography and tomosynthesis required.
  • Compliance with current MQSA requirements, including 15 breast CEU within 36 months and 200 mammography exams in 24 months preferred.
  • Ability to perform a range of mammography studies, including routine screenings and specialized diagnostic views preferred.
  • Recent experience with x-ray procedures is preferred; Fuji experience is an asset.
