Project Accountant

We are seeking a Project Accountant for an engineering and construction management firm. This role is responsible for supporting the financial management of client projects from setup through billing and closeout while working closely with Project Managers and Accounting leadership. The ideal candidate will bring strong project accounting experience, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

This is a full-time, onsite position offering the opportunity to work in a collaborative, project-focused environment with visibility across operations, accounting, and client management functions.

Responsibilities

• Manage project setup and maintenance in Deltek Vantagepoint, including billing terms, rates, contract details, and project structures.
• Prepare and process accurate client invoices in accordance with contract terms and billing schedules.
• Monitor accounts receivable aging, assist with collections efforts, and help resolve billing discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate project financial records and contract documentation to support billing, audits, and compliance requirements.
• Provide Project Managers and leadership with financial reporting, project analysis, forecasting support, and budget tracking.
• Review project financial performance, including revenue, costs, and variances.
• Support proposal and contract administration to ensure accurate financial and billing terms.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, clients, and internal Accounting staff to address project accounting matters and maintain workflow efficiency.
• Assist with process improvements, cross-training efforts, and additional accounting support as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
• 3+ years of project accounting or client-focused accounting experience.
• Experience in a professional services, engineering, or construction-related environment preferred.
• Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of project-based accounting and client billing principles.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with professional client interaction experience.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.

Compensation

• $80,000–$90,000, depending on experience.
