Reports To: VP of Transportation
Role OverviewThe Fleet & Asset Manager provides strategic leadership over the comprehensive lifecycle management of the organization's delivery and material handling assets. This role is pivotal in driving operational excellence by ensuring a safe, compliant, and highly available fleet while maintaining rigorous fiscal responsibility. By aligning physical asset performance with long-term financial strategy and optimizing total cost of ownership, the Manager ensures our supply chain infrastructure is positioned for sustainable growth and peak efficiency.
Key Responsibilities1. Asset Management & Life Cycle AnalysisStrategic Asset Lifecycle Management: Direct the comprehensive acquisition, operational deployment, and decommissioning of all organizational assets, including delivery vehicles and material handling equipment.
Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Optimization: Conduct regular Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) to determine the optimal time for equipment replacement based on maintenance costs vs. residual value.
Fleet Acquisition & Contract Negotiation: Lead the selection process for new equipment, negotiating leases and purchase agreements that align with company growth.
Preventative Maintenance Strategy: Establish and govern preventative maintenance (PM) schedules to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
Strategic Vendor and Service Partner Management: Oversee and qualify third-party repair shops and mobile technicians to ensure high-quality service and fair pricing.
Regulatory Compliance and Risk Mitigation: Ensure all vehicles meet DOT, OSHA, and HAZMAT shipping standards.
Capital Planning and Budget Development: Collaborate with Finance leadership to manage annual fleet budgets and capital expenditure (CAPEX) requests.
Operational Expense Analysis: Analyze fuel consumption, maintenance expenditure trends, and insurance premiums to implement strategic cost-reduction initiatives.
Fixed Asset Register Management: Maintain an accurate fixed-asset register, assisting accounting with depreciation schedules and tax compliance.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Business Administration. CAFM (Certified Automotive Fleet Manager) or similar professional certification is highly desirable.
Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience in fleet operations, asset management, or logistics. Proven track record in life cycle cost analysis and vendor contract negotiations.
Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of telematics platforms (e.g., Geotab), fleet management information systems (FMIS), and ERP software like NetSuite. Strong analytical skills using Tableau or Excel for data-driven reporting.
Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations, including safety compliance, hours of service (HOS), and hazardous materials transportation.
Leadership & Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills to collaborate with Finance, EHS, and Operations teams. Ability to manage complex vendor relationships and lead cross-departmental safety and efficiency initiatives.
Operational Availability: Maintain a minimum vehicle uptime of 95% to ensure consistent service delivery.
Cost Optimization: Monitor and reduce Total Cost per Mile (CPM) through efficient lifecycle management and maintenance strategies.
Safety & Compliance Excellence: Maximize intervals between safety incidents and maintain a superior DOT rating through rigorous regulatory adherence.
