Subject Matter Expert (SME) / Technical Trainer

Position Overview

With the next-generation Educational Technology (EdTech) platform focused on modern technology to power scalable, secure, and data-driven learning ecosystems, we are seeking a highly experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Technical Trainer with deep expertise in U.S. water and wastewater infrastructure systems to support a next-generation Educational Technology (EdTech) platform. This role is responsible for ensuring that curriculum and training programs reflect industry standards, regulatory requirements, and operational realities of water and wastewater systems across the United States. You will deliver engaging, practical training designed to prepare learners for critical roles in public utilities, environmental systems, and municipal infrastructure. You will serve as a key bridge between real-world utility operations, regulatory compliance, and workforce education, helping develop job-ready professionals equipped to support essential water infrastructure systems.

Core Responsibilities

Curriculum Review & Industry Alignment

  • Review and validate curriculum to ensure alignment with U.S. water and wastewater industry standards
  • Ensure alignment with federal and state regulatory requirements (e.g., EPA guidelines)
  • Cover drinking water treatment, wastewater systems, and stormwater management
  • Integrate real-world operational practices and terminology

Training Delivery & Instruction

  • Deliver virtual and in-person training sessions
  • Lead instruction on treatment processes, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Adapt instruction for different learner levels

Subject Matter Expertise

  • Water systems: treatment, distribution, monitoring
  • Wastewater systems: collection, treatment, sludge handling
  • Regulatory compliance: Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Water Act, NPDES

Content Development & Enhancement

  • Develop materials, case studies, and exercises
  • Align training with certification and job-readiness standards
  • Update content based on industry changes

Workforce Readiness & Industry Relevance

  • Align training with roles such as operators and technicians
  • Include lifecycle management and emergency response practices

Learner Engagement & Support

  • Provide mentoring, Q&A, and coaching
  • Support development of technical and problem-solving skills

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with curriculum teams and stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • 5–10+ years of water/wastewater experience
  • Hands-on operational or engineering background
  • Experience delivering training
  • Operator licenses and/or PE certification
  • 5+ years of public utility or municipal experience
  • LMS familiarity

Technical Expertise

  • Water treatment and distribution systems
  • Wastewater processes
  • EPA compliance and certification knowledge
  • State Licensor and/or Certification

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive Compensation: $65,000 - $75,000 base salary based on experience
