Overview
Join our expanding team at Shriners Children's Ohio as a Pediatric Anesthesiologist and play a crucial role in providing exceptional care for infants, children, and adolescents with pediatric burns and plastic and reconstructive surgery. Skills with regional anesthesia are a must.
We're seeking one full time (1.0 FTE) and one part time (0.5 FTE) board-certified/eligible Pediatric Anesthesiologist to join our all-physician anesthesia group dedicated to clinical excellence and research.
Enjoy a Monday to Friday schedule with rare evening and weekend cases, with call taken from home and a minimal call-back rate.
Responsibilities
- Perform pre-anesthesia evaluations and develop individualized anesthetic care plans for pediatric patients.
- Administer general, regional, or monitored anesthesia care to pediatric patients across a range of surgical and non-surgical settings.
- Monitor patient vital signs, anesthetic depth, and physiologic parameters throughout perioperative phases, including induction, maintenance, and emergence.
- Manage airway techniques appropriate for pediatric patients, including advanced airway management and ventilation strategies.
- Respond to intraoperative complications and perioperative emergencies, initiating appropriate interventions as required.
- Collaborate with surgeons, proceduralists, pediatricians, nurses, and other allied health professionals to coordinate care delivery.
- Provide postoperative pain management and follow-up, including regional anesthesia and sedation recovery monitoring.
- Document all assessments, procedures, and interventions in the electronic health record in compliance with regulatory and institutional standards.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement, safety initiatives, clinical protocol development, and peer review processes.
- May contribute to the training and supervision of residents, fellows, or students as part of academic responsibilities.
- Maintain accountability for meeting established productivity benchmarks (e.g. wRVUS), quality metrics, and institutional performance standards
- Ensure time is allocated in accordance with assigned clinical, surgical, administrative, and academic expectations
Qualifications
Education
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an ACGME accredited residency in Anesthesiology
- Completion of fellowship training in Pediatric Anesthesiology
Experience
- Minimum 1-3 years of post-fellowship or equivalent clinical experience in Pediatric Anesthesiology preferred; recent fellowship graduates will be considered based on training and clinical exposure
Certification and Licensures
- Board certification or eligibility in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), with subspecialty certification in Pediatric Anesthesiology
- Must possess eligibility for active and unrestricted medical licensure in the state of practice
- Must possess eligibility for active DEA
- Must possess Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS for HCP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Credentialing and privileging by the medical staff in accordance with hospital bylaws
Additional Knowledge and Skills
- In-depth understanding of pediatric physiology, pharmacology, and anesthesia-specific considerations in neonates through adolescents.
- Competency in administering a broad range of anesthetic techniques appropriate for pediatric populations.
- Proficiency in advanced airway management, vascular access, and resuscitative techniques in pediatric patients.
- Familiarity with anesthesia equipment, monitoring devices, and safety protocols.
- Ability to work effectively in high-acuity, time-sensitive environments, including emergency and trauma settings.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills with multidisciplinary care providers and patient families.
- Compliance with documentation standards, clinical policies, and regulatory guidelines.
