Senior Cultural Resources Specialist – Principal Investigator
Location: Minneapolis, MN

A leading environmental services firm is seeking a Senior Cultural Resources Specialist to serve as a Principal Investigator, leading and managing cultural resource studies, surveys, archaeological excavations, and construction monitoring projects across the Upper Midwest.
This role is responsible for overseeing cultural resources projects from start to finish, including planning, coordination, execution, and delivery. The position requires collaboration with internal teams and external clients, along with involvement in proposal development, project planning, and business growth initiatives.
This is a high-impact role within a growing environmental services practice, offering the opportunity to lead technical work, manage projects, and contribute to strategic growth.
Responsibilities- Serve as Principal Investigator on cultural resources projects
- Lead and manage cultural resource surveys, studies, excavations, and construction monitoring efforts
- Oversee project execution from planning through completion, including scope, budget, and schedule management
- Manage client relationships and ensure successful project delivery
- Identify new project opportunities and support business development efforts
- Lead proposal preparation, cost estimates, and strategic planning initiatives
- Provide leadership for field efforts, technical reporting, and deliverable quality
- Mentor and support development of junior staff
- Ensure compliance with quality control and safety standards
- Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or related field
- Master’s degree or PhD required to qualify as a Principal Investigator
- Must meet Secretary of the Interior’s professional qualifications in archaeology
- Registered Professional Archaeologist (preferred)
- 8+ years of experience in cultural resources, including fieldwork, surveys, excavation, and construction monitoring
- Experience working in Midwest states (MN, ND, SD, WI preferred)
- Experience with federal projects and cultural resource investigations preferred
- Strong knowledge of Section 106 and historic preservation regulations
- Ability to obtain federal and state permits (USFS, BLM, etc.)
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Ability to work in field environments and perform physically demanding tasks
- Proficiency with GPS equipment and Microsoft Office tools
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license required
