Job Description
This role supports the weld shop in a busy manufacturing facility that produces custom-engineered electrical equipment for the energy, industrial, and critical infrastructure sectors. You will assist welders and fitters by preparing materials, performing basic fabrication support tasks, and handling general labor duties to keep production running smoothly in a fast-paced shop environment.

Responsibilities
- Assist welders in the weld shop by preparing materials for welding, including grinding, sanding, deburring, and similar tasks.
- Perform sandblasting and other surface preparation work to ensure materials are ready for fabrication and welding.
- Support fitters by tack welding as needed, following directions and established safety procedures.
- Move materials and components throughout the weld shop and adjacent areas using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Use hand tools and power tools such as grinders, sanders, and other fabrication tools safely and efficiently.
- Perform general labor duties such as shop cleanup, organizing work areas, and disposing of scrap and debris.
- Support basic assembly and production activities as needed to meet daily and weekly output goals.
- Read and use a tape measure accurately to measure and verify material dimensions.
- Collaborate with welders, fabricators, machine operators, and material handlers to maintain a smooth workflow in the shop.
- Follow all safety guidelines, including use of required personal protective equipment, and help maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Required Skills
- At least 2 years of experience as a welder helper in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in grinding, sanding, and deburring metal components.
- Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
- Experience working in a production or fabrication shop environment (non-refinery).
- Comfort using hand tools and power tools, including grinders and other fabrication tools.
- Willingness to perform general labor tasks such as cleaning, material handling, and basic assembly.
- Ability to support welders and fitters, including tack welding when directed.
- Reliable work habits and ability to handle a fast-paced, high-volume workload.

Work Environment
- You will work in a medium-sized, very clean and organized weld shop that is part of a larger multi-facility manufacturing operation. The shop is non-climate-controlled with open bay doors and ample fans to maintain airflow.
- Around 15 people per shift, including machine operators, fabricators, quality control staff, material handlers, and powder coaters.
- Day shift runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and it is extremely common to work 50–60 hours per week, with a 40-hour week being rare.
- The dress code requires steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses, along with any additional personal protective equipment provided for specific tasks.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $16.00 - $16.00/hr.
