  • Assesses patients on admission within specified time frames considering physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs.
  • Reassesses each patient's health needs whenever warranted and at least every shift using nursing processes.
  • Establishes and updates plan of care based on data from all appropriate sources and reassessments.
  • Administers oral, topical, and parenteral medications utilizing the 7 rights.
  • Assesses and documents effectiveness and untoward effects of medications and treatments.
  • Performs treatments and procedures following nursing practice, hospital policy, sterile technique, standard precautions, and patient privacy.
  • Documents care response, pain management, discharge planning, education, and progress towards goals.
  • Educates patient/family based on assessed needs using 'Krames' where appropriate.
  • Interprets diagnostic data and reports, intervenes appropriately.
  • Communicates changes in patient's clinical condition promptly to physicians and healthcare team.
  • Uses SBAR communication for all handoffs.
  • Considers patient rights including confidentiality, safety, and participation in plan of care.
  • Evaluates and documents patient care and effectiveness of teaching.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary care planning.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of restraint application criteria and management per policy.
  • Follows National Patient Safety Goals and hospital policies including two patient identifiers.
  • Understands Disaster Plan and own role.
  • Completes orientation to Life Safety Standards including Code Blue, Code Pink, Haz Mat Spills, Code Red, Oxygen shut off valve.
  • Follows hospital infection control policies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of blood transfusion policy and documentation.
  • Understands Chain of Command and accesses it appropriately.
  • Practices hand hygiene before and after patient contact.
  • Follows guidelines for Core Measures and vaccine control.
  • Demonstrates appropriate interaction with parents.
  • Demonstrates age-appropriate medication administration including dosage calculation, routes, and assessment.
  • Familiar with NICU policies and patient management techniques for age-specific needs.
  • Able to calculate correct fluid and nutritional intake.
  • Demonstrates ability to obtain blood samples via central lines, heel stick, and venipuncture.
  • Demonstrates UAC line setup, calibration, waveform interpretation, discontinuation, and documentation.
  • Demonstrates ability to use bedside monitoring equipment.
  • Familiar with mechanical ventilators and patient assessment.
  • Completes complete head to toe assessment on assigned patients using age-appropriate skills.
  • Recognizes normal versus abnormal vital signs for neonates and intervenes as appropriate.
    Job Requirements
  • BLS certification required.
  • RN license in California required.
  • NICU experience required.
  • 3 years RN experience preferred.
  • PEDS/PICU experience preferred as float option.
    Schedule Information
  • 3 nights per week.
  • Shift: Nights.
  • Hours per day: 12.
  • Hours per week: 36.
    Unit Specific Information
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) specialty.
  • Familiarity with NICU policies required.
  • Experience with neonatal patient management and age-specific care.
  • Ability to manage UAC lines and mechanical ventilators in NICU setting.
    Additional Details
  • This is a travel nursing position.
  • Pay range varies and may include stipends, medical, dental, vision, 401K, and other benefits for clinical travelers.
