Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg ICU position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 2 years of recent ICU experience and night shift availability.
Details
- Acute care setting in a Med/Surg ICU unit at a Level I Trauma Center serving as the primary tertiary hospital for the system
- 34-bed unit serving adult and pediatric patients (15+ years old) with diagnoses including respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1–2 (ICU), 1:4–5 (PCU), and 1:5–6 (Med/Surg)
- RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Equipment includes CVPs, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard, Bell Mont rapid transfuser, and ventilator support ranging from nasal cannula to full vents — training available for specialized equipment
- Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; RNs must be able to read and interpret their own telemetry strips independently (no monitor techs on unit)
- EMR: Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (18:30–06:30); schedule set by manager based on unit needs
- Every other weekend required; holiday coverage expected for 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other as needed
- Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Required certifications (all must be active, no pending accepted): BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license required for address verification)
- Candidates may not currently be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates will interview with unit leaders as part of the selection process
- Orientation consists of 2 unit-specific shifts plus an open-book pass/fail exam on the Friday of orientation week; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass — failure results in contract termination
- Charge nurses are present on each shift, attending rapid response teams (RRTs) and codes; charge nurses carry their own patient assignment
- Nurse aides/patient care techs are available at a 1:18 ratio
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Fast-paced environment with volume fluctuations; successful candidates demonstrate critical thinking, a positive attitude, willingness to collaborate, and the ability to ask questions
- Team-oriented unit working collaboratively with attendings, fellows, and residents
- Candidates who were previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms at CommonSpirit facilities are eligible to apply
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result to contract termination
- RTO must be disclosed upfront; up to 7 days per 13-week contract may be approved — additional RTO will not be approved
