The Opportunity
Jenkins Plumbing and Heating Co is seeking an experienced Master / Lead HVAC Technician & Commercial Mechanical Specialist to oversee heating, ventilation, and air conditioning installations, diagnostics, and system retrofits across Pleasantville and the surrounding South Jersey market.
In this senior field technical role, you will take operational ownership over residential and commercial HVAC projects—installing, troubleshooting, and servicing forced air systems, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits, hydronic boilers, and commercial rooftop units (RTUs). Working with an established, community-focused mechanical contractor built on quality craftsmanship, you will benefit from steady year-round employment with no seasonal layoffs. If you bring 10 or more years of hands-on HVAC experience, active EPA certification, deep electrical/refrigerant diagnostic skills, and a commitment to trade excellence, Jenkins Plumbing and Heating Co provides top-tier hourly pay, prevailing wage access, company vehicle options, and a dedicated tool replacement program.
Key Responsibilities
- System Installation & Complex Repairs: Install, troubleshoot, and repair residential and commercial HVAC systems, rooftop units (RTUs), heat pumps, furnaces, boilers, and VRF systems.
- Preventative Maintenance & Performance Audits: Execute comprehensive seasonal maintenance protocols on commercial and residential mechanical systems to ensure peak operating efficiency and indoor air quality.
- Diagnostic & Electrical Troubleshooting: Diagnose complex electrical control faults, compressor failures, airflow restrictions, circuit board anomalies, and refrigerant leaks.
- Ductwork & Line Set Assembly: Design, measure, modify, and install sheet metal ductwork, ventilation runs, condensate lines, and brazed refrigerant copper line sets.
- EPA & Regulatory Code Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to EPA refrigerant recovery protocols, local mechanical codes, electrical standards, and corporate safety practices.
- Customer Stewardship & Service Explanation: Interact directly with commercial property managers and homeowners—explaining system failures, presenting repair or replacement options, and maintaining clean work zones.
- Digital Field Reporting: Complete accurate digital service tickets, equipment maintenance logs, and daily work orders using company-provided mobile technology.
- Mentorship & Apprentice Guidance: Lead field installation teams, mentor junior apprentices on safe refrigerant handling, and assist with trade skills development.
What You Need to Succeed (Qualifications)

- Mandatory Credentialing: Active Universal EPA Certification (Section 608) strictly required for refrigerant handling and recovery.
- Extensive Industry Tenure: Minimum 10 years of verified hands-on experience in residential or commercial HVAC installation, service, and diagnostic troubleshooting.

- Physical Capabilities: Ability to perform active mechanical labor—working on roofs, in attics, crawl spaces, on ladders, and lifting heavy equipment (up to 75 lbs).
- Mobility Credentials: Valid Driver License with an insurable driving record to operate company-provided service vehicles.
- Tool Assets: Must possess basic hand tools and personal HVAC diagnostic hand tools.
Preferred
- Specialized Certifications: Active NATE Certification, New Jersey Master HVACR License, or Factory Training (e.g., Carrier, Trane, Mitsubishi).
