DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports the mission of the State Ethics Commission by conducting confidential investigations into potential violations of the Ethics Act. This position requires curiosity, creativity, professionalism, initiative, attention to detail, patience, and a strong interest in good and honest government. The work involves gathering facts, reviewing evidence, and ensuring that public officials uphold their responsibilities. As a Special Investigator, you will perform the following duties:
- Evidence Review: Collect and evaluate evidence and prepare it for presentation to supervisors and attorneys
- Investigative Work: Conduct investigations into suspected violations of the Ethics Act
- Information Gathering: Seek out and contact complainants and witnesses to obtain information
- Record Examination: Obtain and examine personal and public records including deeds, contracts, and financial documents
- Interview Activity: Interview respondents and witnesses to gain statements and admissions
- Report Preparation: Prepare reports that document investigative activity and findings

While this position is posted as a Special Investigator 1, we may fill the position as a Special Investigator 2 depending upon the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
- Intrastate travel is required, including occasional overnight stay.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. The selected candidate must be available to work at least three days per week in the office or field, subject to agency operational needs. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
This position includes access to a state vehicle for Commission-related travel.

QUALIFICATIONS
Additional Requirements:
- You must possess a Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Criminology, or any other relevant field; or possess three years experience conducting or assisting with auditing, fraud, internal theft, or administrative investigations.
- This position is located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. You must be willing and able to work in Dauphin County, PA, as well as perform occasional intrastate and/or overnight travel.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of auditing, fraud, internal theft, and administrative Investigative skills.
- Experience in investigative public contact (reviewing and presenting records, correspondence,
