Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Railroad Equipment Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain rail equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations. This role is critical in minimizing downtime and keeping rail operations running reliably.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on railroad equipment, including locomotives, railcars, and track machinery
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues
• Repair engines, braking systems, transmissions, and coupling systems
• Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards
• Replace worn or defective parts using hand tools, power tools, and specialized diagnostic equipment
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
• Respond to emergency repair needs and breakdowns in a timely manner
• Follow all workplace safety procedures and guidelines

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required (technical certification preferred)
• 1+ years of experience in heavy equipment, diesel, or railroad mechanical work
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
• Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
• Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain)
• Ability to work in outdoor conditions and varying weather

Physical Requirements:

• Lift up to 75 lbs.
• Stand, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods
• Work in confined spaces or at heights when required

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) compliance standards
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• Team-oriented with strong communication skills
