About the Opportunity
Backbone Fiber is seeking an experienced Lead Fiber Install Technician to join their growing team in Berthoud, Colorado. This role is ideal for a hands-on fiber professional with strong underground and aerial cable installation experience who enjoys working in the field, solving problems, and supporting large-scale fiber infrastructure projects across Colorado and surrounding regions.

Schedule & Travel
- Four 10-hour shifts weekly (typically Monday–Thursday)
- Start time: 6:45 AM
- Occasional Friday work or emergency outage response as needed
- Travel throughout the Colorado Springs to Cheyenne corridor and eastern Colorado
- Company vehicle provided (returned to Berthoud shop daily unless working at a distant site)
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive hourly pay: $25 - $35/hr

Key Responsibilities
- Install underground and aerial fiber optic cable in a variety of environments
- Perform cable placement using hydraulic pulling, air-assisted blowing, aerial installation, and related methods
- Operate bucket trucks and support aerial cable placement activities
- Install strand, lash cable, set anchors, and manage cable slack appropriately
- Troubleshoot cable placement issues using rodders, compressors, and field tools
- Read construction plans and calculate cable footage requirements
- Coordinate with team members, foremen, and project managers to ensure successful project execution
- Train and support apprentice technicians on-site
- Maintain professional communication with customers and field teams
Required Qualifications
- Experience with underground and/or aerial fiber installation
- Knowledge of cable placement methods including pulling, blowing, aerial lashing, and conduit work
- Ability to troubleshoot installation issues in the field
- Comfortable operating bucket trucks and working at heights
- Ability to drive with trailers (CDL not required)
- Clean driving record required
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently in outdoor field environments
Preferred Experience
- Experience with override installs and occupied conduit
- Familiarity with aerial installation methods including ADSS, strand and lash, and figure-8 cable
- Experience using rodders, compressors, and proofing equipment
- Emergency restoration or outage response experience
