Job Summary:
\nThe Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) plays a vital role within the critical care team
\nTheir primary responsibility is to manage high-acuity adult patients in a multidisciplinary critical care setting
\nThe ICU team provides comprehensive critical care in collaboration with various consulting specialists
\nPatients may be transferred from other floors or hospitals or admitted directly from the Emergency Department (ED) or the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
\nThey may present with a range of conditions, including diabetic ketoacidosis, stroke, renal failure, respiratory failure, sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding, oncologic/hematologic emergencies, electrolyte imbalances, hypertensive emergencies, ENT, neurological, and intra-abdominal surgeries
\nThe APP works closely with critical care intensivists, ICU hospitalists, residents, fellows, and fellow APPs to provide direct patient care in the ICU
\nAPP responsibilities include performing physical exams, collecting and documenting data, performing approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies and consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications
\nAdditionally, the APP may manage ICU consults in collaboration with attending physicians
\nThe APP's role in critical care is to oversee and ensure that patients receive best-practice care
\nPosition is for rotating days, weekends and holidays
\n\n
Essential Functions:
\nObtains and records patient history, Performs physical and medical screening examinations, Completes diagnostic and therapeutic studies, Orders diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies or other therapies as appropriate, Establishes diagnostic decision-making and initiates a treatment plan, which may include ordering medications, additional therapeutic modalities, etc
\nCoordinates patient care with other members of the health care team
\nInitiates consultation requests to other health professionals to provide more comprehensive patient management
\nInstructs and counsels patients regarding mental and physical health, referring patients to appropriate specialists/resources
\nCompletes charting in a thorough and timely manner
\nAdequately manages patient flow in the ICU
\nPerforms procedures as allowed by state law and under the direction of the supervising or collaborating physician
\nWorks within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards
\nActively participates in department staff meetings and risk management education
\nCompletes required courses, i,e, HIPAA, EMTALA and other CME/CEU requirements
\nOther duties as assigned, including but not limited to academic lectures and / or quality improvement projects

Requirements: Graduate of an AMA accredited physician assistant (PA) program and licensed by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners,
\nRecommended high acuity/adult critical care experience
\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills
\nOrganizational ability, management, leadership and teaching skills
\nNeeds to be Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) certified within 90 days of hire
\nNeeds to be Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) certified within 1 year of hire
