Job Description
TCS is searching for a Network / Cable Plant Technician with strong inside and outside plant experience to support our NASA customer at NASA's GSFC campus during an amazing period in NASA’s history. The network supports NASA’s Artemis Program and the Mars Exploration Program, among many, many others. TCS specializes in the areas of network engineering and architecture. The chosen candidate will be part of a team that will provide ample growth opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Installing, supporting, and/or maintaining communication circuits
- Reconciliation of any outstanding help desk tickets (up to & including desk side visits to verify system configurations & test network jacks).
- Resolve wired/wireless network outages, authentication/latency issues, Cisco/Juniper switch configuration & installation, OS upgrades on routers/switches, wireless site surveys, wireless network design, IP address administration, network jack activations, network documentation (Visio).
- Duties also include routine maintenance downtimes in which legacy network hardware is removed from telco. closets & new switches are configured/installed & patch cables are dressed in.
- Performing technical analyses of hardware and transmission facilities using various diagnostic tools in support of efficient network operations
- Identifying, diagnosing, and resolving technical problems related to VoIP or network failure/integrity and usage of PC hardware and software.
- Utilizing existing knowledge while building additional knowledge of the company, client, and processes
- Resolving work orders for Cable Plant, Network, and VOIP issues.

Required:
- High School with 4 or more years of relevant experience
- 3+ years of cable plant experience working with fiber optic, copper, and category cabling.
- 1+ years’ experience troubleshooting complex routing and switching issues, configuring switches, routers, network appliances and WAN devices.
- Basic network troubleshooting skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. for up to 100 feet at a time; must be able to lift 25 lbs. vertically using ladders
- Must be able to work in confined spaces, such as raised floors or communications closets; must be able to work in noisy environments, such as data centers and operations centers; must be able to stand or sit for 8 hours at a time
