JOB TITLE: Field Inspector I
SUMMARY:
This is an intermediate level technical position supporting higher level inspectors and engineers in functional areas of roadway and structures construction inspection: materials sampling, inspection, and testing. Work usually involves a fairly wide range of decision making and use of judgement and may involve providing work direction to others.
LOCATION: Charlotte, North Carolina
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform moderately complex inspections; or supervise other inspectors conducting routine and standardized inspections.
- Work includes inspecting asphalt and concrete for acceptable materials and mix; pavement for proper spreading, rolling, depth, alignment and compaction; roadways and structures for conformance to plans/specifications, structural materials and members, placement of culverts and backfill; and traffic control and erosion control devices.
- May perform the more complex variety of calculations and computations.
- Perform contract documentation duties which includes field measurements of pay items as well as other client required documentation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Considerable knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in construction.
- Skill in use of computers and associated software.
- Ability to read, interpret and explain such documents as construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.
- Ability to take notes and prepare or review reports.
- Effective communication skills (written and oral) and ability to supervise to coordinate activities of lower-level employees and instruct them concerning proper work and documentation.
- Shall be licensed to operate vehicles in accordance with North Carolina law.
- Field Concrete Technician Certification a plus Licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with North Carolina Law.
- High School Diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
- Minimum OSHA 10 Certification.
- North Carolina Soil & Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) Level 1A Certification a preferred.
