DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports statewide safety improvements at rail-highway crossings by serving as a key engineering representative for the Commission. The role involves independent decision making and coordination with many agencies and companies to ensure safe and effective project outcomes. As a Civil Engineering Consultant Bridges, you will perform the following duties:
- Field Investigations: Conduct site visits to assess rail-highway crossings and determine necessary safety actions
- Plan Reviews: Examine engineering and design plans to confirm compliance with safety standards and Commission requirements
- Expert Testimony: Prepare and present technical findings and exhibits during formal hearings
- Project Monitoring: Track progress on assigned proceedings and work with parties to resolve delays or issues
- Final Inspections: Perform official inspections to verify that completed work meets Commission orders and safety expectations
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. Successful candidates are required to report to the headquarters worksite daily, unless the employee meets eligibility requirements and telework has been approved by the Bureau Director. Management may discontinue any telework arrangement at any time, for any reason. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
- To be eligible to participate in telework, the employee's alternate (telework) worksite must be within a reasonable travel distance of Harrisburg and within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of professional civil engineering experience which includes three years in the appropriate specialty.
Special Requirement:
- Possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
Post-Employment Requirement:
- For the Bridges and Transportation parentheticals, successful candidates with an out of state Professional Engineer license will be required to produce a valid Professional Engineer license issued by Pennsylvania within their initial six-month probationary period.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
