Job Title: General Laborer – WEEKLY PAY - START ASAP - $20 TO $23/HOUR
Job Description
Join a custom cabinet manufacturing shop as an entry-level general laborer and develop into a skilled woodworker and cabinet builder. You will work in a fully custom, small, family-oriented facility where about half of the work is automated and half is done by hand. This role involves a wide variety of tasks based on customer orders and relies heavily on hand and power tool use, blueprint reading, shop drawing interpretation, and accurate tape measure reading.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the production of custom cabinets using a combination of automated machinery and hand tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications to build cabinets according to customer orders.
- Accurately measure materials using a tape measure to ensure precise cuts and fits.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively for cutting, shaping, assembling, and finishing wood components.
- Support cabinet assembly, including fitting, fastening, and aligning parts to meet quality standards.
- Perform general labor tasks within the shop, such as material handling, staging, and organizing work areas.
- Lift and move materials and finished products weighing up to 75 pounds as needed throughout the shift.
- Assist with woodworking, carpentry, and cabinetmaking tasks under the guidance of experienced team members.
- Contribute to finish carpentry and finishing work as required to complete custom cabinet projects.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all shop safety procedures and using provided PPE.
- Collaborate with a small team of coworkers to complete jobs efficiently and meet production timelines.
- Adapt to a variety of duties and tasks depending on current customer orders and production needs.
Essential Skills
- Experience using hand tools and power tools in a shop or construction environment.
- Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure.
- Blueprint reading skills, including the ability to understand dimensions and construction details.
- Ability to interpret shop drawings and follow detailed instructions.
- Woodworking experience or strong interest in developing woodworking skills.
- Cabinetry or cabinetmaking exposure, or willingness to learn these skills.
- General carpentry skills, including manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds safely and repeatedly during the workday.
- Comfort working with both automated machines and manual processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience or training in woodworking, cabinetry, or construction.
- Experience in finish carpentry or finishing work on wood products.
- Strong manual dexterity and ability to handle small parts and detailed work.
- Willingness to learn new tools, equipment, and processes in a custom shop environment.
- Reliability and flexibility with work hours to align with production needs.

Work Environment
The facility is a very clean, temperature-controlled custom cabinet shop with a team of approximately 15 to 20 employees. The shop combines automated machinery with hand-building processes, providing exposure to a mix of modern equipment and traditional woodworking techniques. Standard hours run from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Thursday and 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Fridays, with flexibility on start time when needed. Work jeans or pants are preferred in the shop, and the company provides all required personal protective equipment. Steel-toe footwear is not required, though it is recommended. The environment emphasizes safety, comfort, and a collaborative team atmosphere, supported by regular company events such as grill outs.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Canton, SD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
