Job Description
A day in the lab

You wheel a mobile robot into a test bay, power up your Python scripts, and start a full Design Verification cycle. In the morning, you run life-cycle and fatigue sequences on a custom-built fixture you designed last week. Midday, you validate sensor behavior and controls responses at the system level, capturing rich data for analysis. By afternoon, you’re dissecting a failed assembly, documenting root cause, and closing the loop with mechanical, electrical, and controls partners. Before you leave, you publish crisp findings and clear recommendations that move the design forward.

About Symbotic

Symbotic’s A.I.-driven robotics platform is redefining how consumer goods flow through the supply chain. Our intelligent software coordinates fleets of advanced robots in a high‑density, end‑to‑end system—reinventing warehouse automation to deliver more efficiency, speed, and flexibility.

The team you’ll join

Robotics Test Engineering sits within Hardware Engineering and is accountable for proving out the robotic systems that power Symbotic’s platform. The group delivers design verification, durability and subsystem validation, and deep root cause analysis on mobile robot platforms. We partner closely with BOT Hardware as well as Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, and Manufacturing teams to mature designs quickly and lower field risk.

What you’ll tackle
  • Own and refine test plans for system and subsystem Design Verification Testing—from planning and execution through reporting and fast engineering feedback cycles.
  • Run mechanical durability, life‑cycle, and fatigue tests on components and assemblies to prove long‑term performance.
  • Perform teardowns, inspections, and failure analyses on parts and integrated robots; identify root causes and define corrective actions.
  • Design, build, and maintain mechanical test rigs, fixtures, and tooling for validation and sustainment needs.
  • Validate sensors, controls, and software behaviors at the robot system level using Python-based automation, scripting, and data acquisition.
  • Create thorough test documentation, distill insights, and communicate actionable recommendations to cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Support sustainment of released products and collaborate with BOT Hardware to inform and improve future designs.
What you bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years in robotics testing, mechatronics, validation engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Hands‑on background in mechanical durability testing, life‑cycle validation, fatigue analysis, and failure investigation.
  • Knowledge of quality and manufacturing metrology, GD&T, and structured verification and validation (V&V) methods.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks or CATIA) for design reviews, fixture development, and mechanical support.
  • Strong Python skills for scripting, automation, data logging, and efficient test workflows.
  • Exceptional communication and documentation, turning test outcomes into clear engineering actions.
Work setting
  • Onsite role, 5 days per week, in laboratory and warehouse environments.
  • Less than 10% travel for supplier visits or support at additional locations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift robot components or test equipment, and operate safely around mobile robots and automated machinery.
