Position Overview
Sensitron is seeking a motivated Junior Mechanical Engineer to support the design, prototyping, testing, and production of mission-critical space, aerospace, and defense products. This role offers exceptional hands-on experience and direct exposure to real-world engineering challenges in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
Unlike large corporations where junior engineers are often siloed into narrow roles, this position offers broad exposure across product design, prototype development, manufacturing, testing, vendor coordination, and customer interaction. High performers are given increasing technical responsibility and advancement opportunities based on demonstrated capability and initiative.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist senior engineering personnel in the design and development of new products from prototype through production
* Develop engineering drawings, documentation, fixtures, and mechanical components
* Build, assemble, and test functional prototypes and product concepts
* Support product testing, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement efforts
* Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and manufacturing partners as required
* Participate in design reviews and engineering problem-solving activities
* Communicate with customers via phone, email, and occasional face-to-face interactions
* Manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment
* Maintain organized engineering records and documentation

Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related engineering discipline
* Strong interest in aerospace, defense, electromechanical, or high-reliability product design
* Comfortable building, assembling, and troubleshooting physical products and prototypes by hand
* Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills
* Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
* Detail-oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
* Proficient in SolidWorks and AutoCAD
* Travel less than 10%
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with ANSYS or other engineering simulation tools
* Hands-on machining, fabrication, or maker/project experience
* Formula SAE, robotics, drone, RC, or similar technical project involvement
* Military or technical service background
* Familiarity with electronics or electromechanical systems

* This is an on-site position due to the hands-on nature of prototype and product development work.
* This position requires access to technology, material, software, or hardware that is controlled by U.S. export laws. In order to be eligible, applicants must be either a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
