Duties:
Job Summary:

The Neurodiagnostic Tech applies knowledge to produce high quality neurodiagnostic studies with the use of professional knowledge to meet or exceed department guidelines and ASET guidelines. The Neurodiagnostic technician shall have a thorough knowledge and proficiency in the skill of neurodiagnostic practice and procedures.



Job Responsibilities:

-Core EEG (Electroencephalography) functions: Include but are not limited to: (1) Routine outpatient and inpatient EEGs, (2) Prolonged routine EEGs to rule out ECS (brain death), (3) Long-term continuous EEG in patients, (4) Outpatient event monitoring, (5) Pvt VEEGs / Use 10-20 system for electrode placement, adapting to individual patients within the 10-19 system as indicated.



-Advanced EEG functions: Include but are not limited to: (1) VEEG inpatient event monitoring, (2) Monitor multiple patients' EEG and video in the EMU, (3) Make appropriate notations on the EEG record, (4) Actively evaluate patient during clinical events, (5) Notify physician and/or nurses as necessary, (6) Monitor patients scheduled for ictal SPECT, observe VEEG to detect seizure onset, assist RN or Nuclear Medicine Technologist regarding appropriate clinical scenarios and time to inject radiotracer, (7) Perform EEGs in the Interventional Radiology lab during WADA procedure, (8) Intracarotid EEG recording, (9) Intra-operative/pre-operative/intra-operative EEG brain mapping.



-Quality and Safety Assurance: (1) Monitor to prevent injury related to clinical event or fall, (2) Understand mechanisms for notifying nurse, doctor, or rapid response team, (3) Maintain electrical safety during all neurodiagnostic testing, (4) Comply with ASET minimum standards and infection control standards, (5) Understand potential risks such as poor electrode connections, electrical interference, and patient behaviors that limit recording interpretation.



-Education: Applies knowledge to provide patient education relating to neurodiagnostic procedures. Provides on-the-job training for specific skills as appropriate. Continually strives to improve competency and obtain new skills through on-the-job training and formal education.



-Non-EEG functions: Evoked potentials, SSEP.
