Job Description
CNC Machine Operator
The Machinery Operator is responsible for setting up and operating Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machinery, including turret punch presses, laser cutting systems, and press brakes. This role ensures accurate fabrication of sheet metal components according to engineering drawings and specifications, while maintaining high standards of quality, efficiency, and safety. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in CNC operations with hands-on machine operation experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical specifications to develop precise machining instructions.
- Set up machines, including tooling selection, material loading, and parameter configuration.
- Perform first-piece inspections and make necessary program adjustments to meet tolerances.
- Operate / program AMADA equipment such as laser cutters, turret punch presses, and press brakes.
- Monitor machine performance, maximize machine capability and ensure consistent production output.
- Troubleshoot machine or programming issues and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain proper machine calibration and alignment.
- Ensure lights out operation for off work hours production.
Quality Control:
- Inspect finished parts using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.
- Maintain documentation for quality assurance and production tracking.
- Identify defects and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure processes and procedures are followed.
Maintenance & Safety:
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Responsible for recommending, ordering and maintaining spare parts.
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards and proper use of PPE.
- Keep work area clean, organized, and hazard-free.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in manufacturing, machining, or a related field preferred.
- 2–5+ years of experience operating and programming CNC equipment.
- Experience in sheet metal fabrication is highly preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in programming software (AP100, VPSS, or similar).
- Strong understanding of CNC machining principles.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with tooling setups and sheet metal fabrication processes.
Soft Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift materials up to 50 lbs.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise and machinery.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing or fabrication shop setting.
- May require shift work, overtime, or weekend availability depending on production demands.
