Position: Field Collector

Location: Richmond, VA

6-month contract to hire

Pay Rate: $18-$20 Hourly Based on Experience

Job Description:

Insight Global is seeking a Field Data Collector for a top utility engineering client. This candidate will support utility design and permitting efforts by collecting accurate field data using GPS and other mapping instruments. The role is highly field-focused, ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, managing their own schedule, and contributing directly to infrastructure projects. Full training is provided, and the individual will work alongside experienced teammates until fully qualified to operate independently.

Must-Haves:

High School Diploma

Valid driver’s license

Ability to work outdoors for extended periods (standing/walking)

Ability to work independently with strong time management

Comfortable working in rough terrain and inclement weather

Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office & Google Suite)

Ability to read maps, plan routes, and follow safety guidelines

Day-to-Day:

Use GPS and mapping equipment to locate and collect field data points

Walk pole-to-pole carrying required field equipment

Collect accurate measurements, notes, and mapping data in the field

Input field data into engineering computer systems

Process and validate collected data for design and permitting

Maintain field equipment and assigned vehicle

Follow all safety protocols while working independently or with teammates

Travel to job sites as needed, including occasional overnight stays

Plusses:

Utility right-of-way knowledge or experience

Prior field data collection, surveying, or mapping experience

Familiarity with GPS equipment, total stations, or mapping instruments

Experience working in utility, engineering, or construction environments
