Radiology Technologist

Job Summary
Functions as a Radiology Technologist, under the supervision of the Imaging Services Director and or Manager for clinical issues and Practice Manager for administrative aspects of position.
MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS:
• ODH license
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
• BLS certification
• Proven clinical capabilities
• Maintain required Continuing Education credits to hold current registration organization membership
• No written disciplinary action within the last 12 months
PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES:
• Personal computer experience and keyboarding skills
• 3 years experience in the field of Medical Imaging
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Perform X-rays
• Transfer films to the radiologist for reading
• Practice the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) concept when performing exams, using the lowest radiation exposure
• Perform QC as outlined below
o o Perform appropriate tube warm up practices
o o Perform quality control specific to modality (Phantom Imaging and evaluation, cassette cleaning, etc…)
o o Work with Field Service Engineer to maintain equipment functionality and image quality
• Apply appropriate radiation safety practices to daily
• Utilize protective barriers, lead aprons, and shields when possible
• Collimate and shield to minimize patient radiation exposure
• Participate in data collection for quarterly Radiology Quality Assurance Committee
• Always follow the Safe Operating Procedures specific to the equipment
• Work closely with the medical physicist to follow ODH (Ohio Department of Health) rules regarding radiation safety practices
• Routine responsibilities
o Evaluate the physicians/providers order for accuracy

o Identify the patient utilizing two forms of ID o Set appropriate KVP, MAS settings for exposure
o Accurately position the patient so that all projections can be obtained
o Perform exam to provide quality images for physician interpretation
o Post process image data for physician interpretation o Provide patient education when required
o Provide hospital personnel education as needed
o Work under the direction of the Radiologist/Physician during procedures to achieve the goal of appropriate care
o In an emergent situation operate quickly, and in control, provide the procedure to achieve the best patient outcome
Radiologic Technologists assist the Radiologist/Physician/Provider with the process of imaging and diagnosing illness. Radiologic Technologist job descriptions include tasks such as: capturing the image, obtaining the best quality image, and ensuring the patients are comfort and safe. The Rad Tech must be able to effectively explain the procedure to the patient. In addition, be sure that they are comfortable and at ease during the procedure; however, it is very important that they do what is necessary to obtain a high quality image that will be sufficient for thorough examination by the physician and allow for correct diagnosis
ADDITIONAL POSITION EXPECTATIONS:
• Patient communication and preparation including removal of garments or jewelry that may interfere with procedure and explaining how the process works.
• Positioning patients properly to obtain quality images
• Setting the equipment to obtain the best density, detail, and contrast of the area being imaged.
• Taking preventative steps to avoid unnecessary exposure to radiation.
• Applying their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to the process in order to help the physician diagnose problems.
• Must be able to communicate calmly, compassionately, and professionally with all different types of patients including the pediatric, elderly, ailing, and handicapped.
• Perform other assignments as requested by the Imaging Services Director or Manager or Practice Manager
• Possess sufficient computer skills to perform responsibilities in PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and RIS (Radiology Information System)
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• Exposed to blood, body fluids and/or airborne pathogens, and are required to wear appropriate PPE
• Employees in this position must be able to push, pull, lift, carry, turn, crouch, and bend as necessary to complete radiology exam tasks.
• Employees may be expected to work weekends, evenings, or Holidays.
• Demonstrate acceptance of supervisory authority, guidance, and instruction. Follow appropriate chain of command.
• Report patient observations and specific problems to practitioner and/or management, as appropriate
• Obtain/maintain Order Entry (OE) certification.
