A Tennessee public high school math teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality mathematics instruction to students in grades 9 through 12 while strictly aligning lessons with the Tennessee Academic Standards for Mathematics. This role requires creating a supportive, structured classroom environment, tracking academic performance, and actively preparing students for state-mandated standardized assessments.
Core Responsibilities
- Instructional Delivery: Plan and teach rigorous courses such as Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, and Calculus.
- Standards Alignment: Design curriculum and daily lesson plans targeting specific Tennessee State Board of Education objectives.
- Differentiated Learning: Adapt teaching methods to fit various learning styles, student capabilities, and individual needs.
- Student Assessment: Administer tests, evaluate progress, and prepare students for End-of-Course (EOC) state standardized testing.
- Classroom Management: Establish behavioral expectations, maintain safety, and foster a professional environment.
- Stakeholder Communication: Maintain regular verbal and written updates for parents regarding student progress and behavior.
- Professional Collaboration: Attend faculty meetings, participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and engage in state or district-mandated training
Job Requirements
- Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: Valid Tennessee Educator License with an active secondary mathematics endorsement (e.g., Mathematics 6-12).
- Alternative Pathways: Out-of-state transfers or individuals enrolled in an approved Tennessee alternative certification program are often considered.
