Reports To

Clinical Director / Program Director

Position Summary

The MAT Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) provides clinical counseling services to individuals receiving Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) services for substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders. The LPC works collaboratively with medical providers, nurses, case managers, peer recovery specialists, and community partners to support recovery, improve functioning, and promote overall wellness. Services are provided in accordance with DBHDS, DMAS, Medicaid, and organizational standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and substance use evaluations.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans, crisis prevention plans, and discharge plans.
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling services utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Deliver counseling interventions related to substance use disorders, relapse prevention, trauma-informed care, and co-occurring disorders.
  • Monitor client progress toward treatment goals and update documentation accordingly.
  • Coordinate care with prescribing providers, nurses, probation officers, social services, hospitals, and community agencies.
  • Assist individuals in developing coping skills, recovery supports, and community resources.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and case consultations.
  • Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments when clinically indicated.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of clinical documentation within the electronic health record system.
  • Maintain compliance with DBHDS, DMAS, HIPAA, Medicaid, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Participate in required trainings, supervision, and quality improvement activities.
  • Support client engagement, retention, and recovery-oriented services.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and uphold ethical standards of practice.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, Social Work, or related behavioral health field required.
  • Active Virginia LPC license required.
  • Experience working with substance use disorders, MAT programs, or co-occurring disorders preferred.
  • Knowledge of recovery-oriented systems of care and trauma-informed practices preferred.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of substance use disorders and evidence-based treatment modalities.
  • Understanding of Medication Assisted Treatment models and recovery principles.
  • Knowledge of DBHDS and Medicaid regulations.
  • Ability to build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional ethics.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and communicate effectively throughout the workday.
  • Ability to travel locally as needed for community-based services or meetings.

Work Environment

  • Office-based and community-based behavioral health setting.
  • May require travel between program locations and community resources.
