A Radiology Tech Aide assists radiologic technologists (RTs) in performing diagnostic imaging procedures, such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans, by preparing patients, equipment, and workspaces. They support the radiology team by helping manage patient flow, ensuring the proper operation of imaging devices, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in the radiology department.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Preparation:

    • Greet and prepare patients for imaging procedures by explaining the process and answering any questions to ensure patient comfort and understanding.
    • Assist patients in changing into gowns, positioning them for imaging procedures, and ensuring that they are comfortable throughout the process.
    • Help patients with mobility or positioning challenges, ensuring that they are in the proper position for the imaging procedure.
    • Take and record patient history, including any contraindications for certain imaging tests (e.g., allergies or pregnancy).
  2. Assist with Imaging Procedures:

    • Support radiologic technologists by preparing imaging equipment and ensuring that it is in proper working order.
    • Assist with the positioning of patients and equipment for X-ray, MRI, or CT scans under the supervision of a technologist.
    • Provide assistance in adjusting equipment settings, ensuring that the correct protocols are followed for specific imaging tests.
    • Handle contrast agents, assist with their administration if required, and monitor patients for any reactions during imaging procedures.
  3. Patient Safety and Comfort:

    • Ensure that patients follow safety instructions, such as holding still during imaging or wearing protective lead shields when necessary.
    • Observe patients during the imaging process for signs of distress or discomfort, reporting any issues to the radiologic technologist or supervising staff immediately.
    • Maintain a safe and clean environment for patients by following infection control and sanitation procedures.
  4. Equipment Management:

    • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of radiology equipment, ensuring it is properly calibrated and cleaned after each use.
    • Ensure that imaging equipment is stocked with the necessary supplies, including contrast materials and film (if applicable), and assist with any technical equipment adjustments as needed.
    • Troubleshoot minor issues with equipment or alert appropriate personnel for maintenance when needed.
  5. Administrative and Clerical Support:

    • Assist in maintaining patient records by entering and updating information related to imaging procedures and patient history.
    • Ensure that all imaging films, reports, and records are appropriately filed and accessible.
    • Help with scheduling patient appointments for radiology exams and manage patient flow in the department.
    • Handle administrative tasks such as answering phones, verifying patient identification, and processing insurance information.
  6. Maintaining Departmental Cleanliness and Organization:

    • Ensure that imaging rooms, equipment, and workspaces are clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
    • Follow infection control protocols by properly disposing of used medical supplies and cleaning surfaces between patient interactions.
    • Maintain patient waiting areas, ensuring they are comfortable and clean for incoming patients.
  7. Collaboration with the Radiology Team:

    • Work under the supervision of radiologic technologists and radiologists to ensure that imaging procedures are performed efficiently and accurately.
    • Communicate effectively with technologists and other healthcare professionals to support the proper flow of patients and procedures.
    • Assist in educating patients on the procedure steps, post-imaging instructions, and follow-up requirements.
