About the Company

Join a stable, family-owned company with 65+ years in business. We support a team of 90–95 employees and maintain a fleet of 80+ vehicles and machines, including service trucks, trailers, small engines, skid steers, loaders, pumps, and irrigation equipment.

This is a hands-on lead mechanic role focused on keeping our fleet safe, reliable, and ready to work. You’ll handle maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and help support in-house NYS vehicle inspections as our facility becomes a licensed inspection station.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on gas and diesel vehicles and equipment
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and drivetrain issues
  • Work on trucks, vans, trailers, small engines, and landscaping/construction equipment
  • Handle shop repairs and occasional field/job-site repairs during busy seasons
  • Perform advanced diagnostics using scan tools, meters, and OEM software
  • Complete major repairs when needed (engines, transmissions, hydraulics, components)
  • Prioritize multiple breakdowns in a fast-paced environment
  • Track repairs, parts, and maintenance records accurately
  • Perform (or train to perform) NYS safety and emissions inspections
  • Follow all safety procedures and company protocols
  • Support overtime and emergency repairs as needed

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of mechanic experience (10+ years preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of gas & diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and drivetrains
  • Valid New York State driver’s license
  • NYS Motor Vehicle Inspector certification (or ability to obtain quickly — company supports licensing)
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Physically capable of lifting, working outdoors, and handling field repairs
  • Reliable, organized, safety-focused, and communicative

Preferred Experience

  • Heavy equipment, skid steers, loaders, small engines, or irrigation equipment
  • Fleet maintenance in landscaping, irrigation, or construction environments
  • ASE certifications, CDL, welding/fabrication skills
  • Major component rebuild experience

What We Offer

  • Up to $55/hour, based on experience
  • Overtime pay at time-and-a-half
  • Health insurance (partial employer contribution)
  • Dental insurance (employee-paid)
  • 401(k) with partial company match
  • Paid time off
  • Tool allowance or additional perks may be available
  • Year-round, stable work with a respected family-owned company
  • Opportunity to grow and lead within a supportive team environment
