Job Description

Seeking a highly skilled, compassionate, and clinically driven Nurse Practitioner/Physician Extender to play a pivotal role in advancing the health and well-being of a student population. This position serves as a key healthcare provider within the clinic, delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care while helping to ensure the highest standards of clinical excellence across the department.

The successful candidate will independently manage a diverse patient caseload, providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for a wide range of acute and chronic health conditions. Working collaboratively with the healthcare team, this provider will contribute to a supportive, accessible, and high-quality healthcare experience for students while serving as a clinical resource and mentor to staff.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Patient Management

  • Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including obtaining medical histories and performing physical examinations.
  • Diagnose and treat a broad spectrum of health conditions affecting college-aged and adult patients.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic tests to support clinical decision-making.
  • Prescribe medications and develop individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practices.
  • Perform minor non-invasive procedures as appropriate within the scope of practice.
  • Provide preventive care, health education, and wellness counseling to support long-term student health.

Leadership & Clinical Oversight

  • Serve as an integral member of the provider team, functioning in a role comparable to that of a primary care physician in many aspects of patient care delivery.
  • Provide day-to-day clinical oversight and guidance to healthcare staff to ensure safe, efficient, and effective patient care.
  • Support the development and maintenance of clinical competencies among staff members.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the orientation and onboarding process for non-provider clinical personnel.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement initiatives and adherence to clinical best practices.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Professional Expertise

The ideal candidate possesses a broad clinical foundation and the ability to confidently evaluate and manage patients presenting with a wide range of healthcare needs. Areas of expertise include:

  • General adult primary care
  • Women's health
  • Pediatric and adolescent health concerns
  • Musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions
  • Common mental and behavioral health issues

The successful provider will demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development by staying current with emerging healthcare trends, evidence-based practices, and advancements in clinical care.

Patient-Centered Communication

This role requires exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. The provider must be able to:

  • Clearly explain diagnoses, treatment recommendations, and potential short- and long-term health implications.
  • Empower patients to make informed healthcare decisions through education and guidance.
  • Answer medical questions from patients, staff, and colleagues with confidence and professionalism.
  • Foster an environment of trust, respect, and compassionate care.

Clinical Judgment & Collaboration

  • Exercise sound clinical judgment and independent decision-making in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
  • Effectively prioritize patient needs while maintaining high standards of care.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated and comprehensive healthcare services.
  • Demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence in every aspect of patient care.

Why This Role Matters

This position is far more than a traditional clinical role—it is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the health, success, and overall student experience. As a trusted healthcare provider and clinical leader, the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Extender serves as a vital resource for students and staff alike, helping to create a healthier campus community through exceptional patient care, clinical expertise, and compassionate service.
