Position Summary
The Mechanical Construction Superintendent is responsible for coordinating field operations and providing supervision on individual or multiple mechanical projects from inception and planning to final completion and turnover, primarily for industrial projects but could also include plumbing, sheet metal and equipment installations for commercial and institutional projects.
The Mechanical Construction Superintendent will maintain the essential flow of information between the construction team, subcontractors, design team, project management team and client, keeping all parties well informed. Duties include project oversight, and operations, project documentation, jobsite communications with employees, subcontractors and client, project scheduling and maintaining project controls. The Mechanical Construction Superintendent will ensure that project work is completed according to project specifications and in accordance with client expectations for safety, quality, and service. The Mechanical Construction Superintendent will be responsible to recruit, lead, manage, train and mentor Pipe Fitters, Mechanics, Boiler Mechanics, Welders, Plumbers, HVAC and Sheet Metal Mechanics, Electricians, Insulators, and other construction trades and project crews.
The Construction Superintendent will at times be supporting Project Managers under their direct supervision. The Construction Superintendent reports to the VP of Operations.
Qualifications
*Minimum Qualification High School Diploma
*Journeyman Certification in applicable trade such as Pipe Fitting, Welding, Plumbing or equivalent combination of training and experience.
*Minimum of 5 years of experience managing projects and or sites with projects ranging from 750K to 2M
*Able to read/interpret drawings, understand weld symbols, read, and apply code, standards, and customer specifications.
*Must be able to survey, lay-out, design, and create drawings for fabrication, and installation of mechanical process piping systems.
*Proficient in layout, fitting, and welding processes
*Completed leadership and supervisory development classes or has certifications
*Proficient in using technology and applications including BIM, Word, Excel and Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Blue Beam
*Strong planning, organization and scheduling skills. Must be able to use Microsoft Project and other computer based scheduling applications
*OSHA 30
*Thorough knowledge of safety program, policies and procedures
*Excellent communication skills including verbal, correspondance, technical writing and project documentation
*Able to give clear, unambiguous instructions
*Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
*Must have a valid drivers license and experience using, construction and craft related equipment including manlifts, forklifts, vehicles, and lulls
Duties & Responsibilities
*Regular and punctual attendance
*Maintain safety and environmental health on the jobsite. Fully implements and enforces the APEX Safety Management System and confirms compliance with all provisions on the jobsite.
*Perform a formal review of contract drawings, shop drawings, BOM list, material takeoff, submittal log, equipment log, RFI log, change order log and job schedule. Identifies issues, conflicts and concerns and notifies Project Manager, GC or client, in writing, as appropriate.
*Assist in preparing project schedules including mobilization, construction and start up.
*Continuously monitors adherence to project milestones, deadlines and targets. Supports ongoing project management and operations with planning and the utilization of proper means and methods for construction activities.
*Document and communicate to Project Manager progress status and job-related issues impacting schedule, cost, personnel, safety, quality, or performance.
*Maintain meticulous job related documentation such as client correspondence, RFI, submittals, drawings, sketches, spreadsheets, meeting minutes, daily reports, change orders and as built drawings.
*Coordinate daily activities including scheduling, task delegation, material deliveries and subcontractor activities.
*Obtain permits, bids from subcontractors, vendor quotes
*Ensures scope of work as specified in contract is followed and notifies client and project manager if changes are necessary. Provide rationale for changes, anticipated cost and extra time required.
*Manages subcontractor closeout, transfer of utilities, owner training, punch list close out, as-built drawings, and final client completion letter.
*Motivates people to work to the best of their ability through open communications, regular meetings, attention to their needs and providing coaching and mentoring.
*Monitors and evaluates performance. Provides ongoing feedback. Complete annual performance evaluations. Holds team members accountable for job responsibilities. Document disciplinary action.
*Recognizes and rewards for their individual contributions or collective accomplishments.
*Other duties as assigned.
