AIS is seeking certified Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ToDHH) to join our team of independent contractors in several areas in Virginia, in both REMOTE and ON-SITE positions. ToDHH are itinerant and provide services to students with hearing loss in local school divisions. The Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing functions as a member of a student’s educational team to provide direct instruction, consultative, and support services for educational achievement.
The candidate must possess a working knowledge of:
- assessment and instructional strategies
- evidence-based research in the field
- recommended best practices
- various communication modalities utilized
- technologies and hearing assistive technologies available for individuals with hearing impairment, and
- expected roles and responsibilities of a Teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing within a school environment.
The ToDHH will:
- Utilize current evidence-based practices to assess and develop auditory skills, language development, and educational achievement.
- Comply with special education services within federal, state/county procedural guidelines.
- Participate in the development and implementation of IEPs for those students identified as eligible for Hearing Impairment (HI) services.
- Provide ethical and evidence-based treatment, guided by data collection, response to treatment, and ongoing analysis of developing academic skills as well as auditory and language skills.
- Communicate and consult with students, parents, educators, administrators, and outside agency professionals.
Required:
A Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement in Hearing Impairment
