Job Description
Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Play a pivotal role in supporting deaf and hard of hearing students in an inclusive school environment as a Sign Language Interpreter. This contract opportunity offers consistent, full-time hours (about 30 hours/week across 6-hour days) throughout the school year. You’ll work onsite, closely collaborating with elementary or intermediate school students, classroom teachers, and staff to enhance every student’s learning experience.
Qualifications:
- Certification from the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, or a score of 4.0 or higher on the EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessment
- Candidates with an EIPA score below 4.0 are encouraged to apply and will be considered as ASL Paraeducators
- Proficiency in American Sign Language, with the ability to provide clear sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation
- Experience supporting students in academic settings preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and adaptability
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom content between deaf/hard of hearing students, their peers, and educators
- Support students in core subjects such as reading, writing, and math, as well as vocational or daily living skills
- Facilitate communication in classroom, outdoor, and community settings, ensuring full participation for all students
- Monitor and assist students during activities and transitions throughout the school day
- Maintain professional boundaries while building rapport with students and staff
