Job Description
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, active Pharmacist license, and minimum 1+ years Pharmacist in Charge experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
An opportunity is available for a Pharmacist in Charge to lead pharmacy operations within an inpatient hospital environment. This role demands a highly organized professional with hands-on experience managing pharmacy staff, overseeing medication distribution, and collaborating across clinical departments to ensure top-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as Director of Pharmacy: develop staff schedules, manage technician and pharmacist workflow.
- Collaborate with the Buyer to resolve medication supply chain issues promptly.
- Lead the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee by preparing agendas, conducting meetings, and implementing approved protocols.
- Participate in monthly medical staff committee meetings and initiatives aimed at reducing COPD readmissions.
- Conduct monthly department meetings and daily weekday department huddles.
- Manage ordering of controlled substances twice weekly.
- Oversee payroll processes and maintain user access to Pyxis systems.
- Act as an accessible resource to pharmacy staff during business hours (M-F, 8am-4:30pm).
- Complete a 2-week onsite training period prior to maternity leave coverage.
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- Valid Missouri pharmacy license.
- Proven experience as a Pharmacist in Charge or Director of Pharmacy in an inpatient hospital setting.
- Competency in sterile compounding procedures.
- Familiarity with Meditech Expanse order entry system is preferred.
- Exposure to various specialty areas including OB (excluding NICU/high-risk pregnancy), orthopedics, pediatrics (excluding PICU), oncology, cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, behavioral health, endocrinology, podiatry, general surgery, rheumatology, and wound care.
Environment and Team:
- Hospital inpatient setting with approximately 4.5 pharmacist and 6 technician full-time equivalents.
- Joint Commission survey preparation underway.
Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
- No after-hours on-call responsibilities, though support for pharmacy staff questions is expected during business hours.
