Position Overview:

The Tooling Machinist is responsible for setup and operation of CNC equipment to accurately and efficiently machine tooling products to required specifications.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
• Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock;
• Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs
• Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads
• Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position
• Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to quality standards
• Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes
• Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
• Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements;
• Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
• Documents actions by completing production and quality logs
• All other duties as required

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to effectively operate and maintain forklift equipment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to comprehend direction in both written and verbal form
• Proficient with using measuring devices
• Proficient math skills
• Outstanding organizational skills
• Deftness and attention to detail

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years' experience in a similar role

Physical Requirements:

• Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing
• Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
• Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching
• Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 75 pounds
• Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases
