Job Functions:
The Adult Education Supervisor oversees the Adult Education services on MM’s Tampa Campus and supervises the Adult Education Advisor and CareCorps Program Coordinator.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide individual education counseling for MM Residents and CareCorps clients to encourage, mentor, tutor, and monitor the client’s progress. Advise the client of any changes to their education plan. Keep current and thorough notes in Clarity during the duration of assistance.
- Supervise, mentor, and coach Adult Education Advisor and CareCorps Coordinator. Conduct regular supervision with team members.
- Oversee the Adult Education Readiness process and ensure quality and consistency of services.
- Maintain timely documentation and data entry for Residential Clients and CareCorps students.
- Prepares or assists in preparing the yearly budget. Monitors program spending of the yearly budget.
- Attend the Family Transfer Staffing (FTS) meetings and any other necessary meetings to provide updates on Adult Education Clients.
- Facilitate volunteer tutors and AmeriCorps Success Coach to staff Adult Education Study sessions and tutor one-on-one with clients when necessary.
- Research the availability of education programs that meet the client’s career goals and interests.
- Assist the client with completing the school/college/program application process and FAFSA, including obtaining a signed FERPA form allowing communication with school instructors.
- Assist the client with purchasing books, supplies, or transportation needs. Order, maintain, monitor, and distribute CareCorps material.
- Collaborate with the MM Accounting Department to complete tuition, materials, transportation assistance, and/or supplies purchases.
- Collaborate with MM staff to advocate for the client’s education plan.
- Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule to ensure client/program needs are met.
- Participate in Metropolitan Ministries holiday efforts, Bridge Builders, and other fund-raising events, and provide tours of the facilities and speak on behalf of Metropolitan Ministries as needed.
- Meet personal goals and actively contribute to the achievement of the team and organizational targets/goals as stated in the KPIs and the strategic plan. Complete other tasks as assigned.
Education and Experience:
A minimum of a B.A. or B.S. degree in education, adult education, or related education/social services field. Must be knowledgeable about homeless issues and the State Statute 1009.25 (Florida Homeless Education Waiver), with experience working with individuals with educational challenges and/or be willing to seek continuing education related to the homeless population and/or a higher degree. Minimum of three years’ experience in the field of social services or education required; five years’ experience preferred. Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, procedures, and degree programs at local institutions. Knowledge and experience in Career Counseling or Academic Advising and public-school system preferred.
Skills Requirements:
Must be able to work effectively with clients, representing and communicating their status and progress to small groups and professionals within a network comprised of the Hillsborough County School District, Metropolitan Ministries service providers, and applicable and related providers in the surrounding community. Must be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team framework; strong interpersonal and supervisory skills; strong oral and written communications skills; dependability; demonstrates maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in clients served; ability to handle job related matters in a professional, diplomatic, and confidential manner; willing to work with minimal supervision, yet be able to accept direction; well organized and detail oriented. Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Access, Word and Excel required.
Requires heart for ministry and comfort working with poor and homeless families and individuals. Requires understanding of poverty, a high degree of maturity, strong inter-personal skills and the ability to work with low socio-economic and diverse populations facing crisis situations in a professional and diplomatic manner. Knowledge of community resources available to homeless population. Must demonstrate maturity and sensitivity to issues of faith, culture, and other sources of diversity. Ability to work as part of a team within a multi-disciplinary framework.
Physical Requirements:
Hearing and speaking ability, which allows for effective oral communication; physical and emotional stamina to effectively handle job related issues and stress.
Other:
Must pass applicable pre-employment screening and demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Must be available to work during normal school hours and for evening meetings as required. Must pass required background pre-employment screening. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to transport self and clients when necessary.
