General Manager – Dental Laboratory

Location: Elmhurst, NY (On-site)

Position Type: Full-time

Salary Range: $100,000 – $130,000 / year (Plus performance-based incentives)

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced, high-energy General Manager to run the complete day-to-day business and technical operations of our full-service dental laboratory in Elmhurst, NY. In this role, you will hold total accountability for the facility—driving profitability, leading our production teams, and ensuring our dental accounts receive world-class quality and service.

The General Manager bridges the gap between our bench technicians, our digital CAD/CAM department, and our clinical clients. If you are a natural leader who loves optimizing workflows, managing people, and keeping a facility running like clockwork, we want to talk to you.

Key Responsibilities 1. Facility & Business Operations
  • Oversee total daily laboratory operations, managing the facility’s P&L, operational expenses, and productivity goals.

  • Utilize lab management software to track daily case volumes, active invoice stages, and key performance metrics.

  • Manage local logistics, ensuring intake of physical/digital impressions and outgoing deliveries meet strict turnaround deadlines.

  • Maintain vendor relationships and control inventory costs on essential materials (zirconia, PMMA, resins, milling burs).

2. Production & CAD/CAM Management
  • Coordinate workflows between the digital design department (3Shape/exocad) and production teams (milling, 3D printing, ceramics, and finishing).

  • Implement daily production schedules to prevent bottlenecks, balance staff workloads, and hit target delivery dates.

  • Proactively troubleshoot equipment issues or software updates to minimize bench downtime.

3. Team Leadership & Accountability
  • Recruit, train, and manage department supervisors, technicians, and administrative staff.

  • Foster a collaborative, high-standard culture focused on precision, continuous learning, and pride in craftsmanship.

  • Handle performance reviews, labor scheduling, and cross-training initiatives to build a flexible workforce.

4. Client Relations & Quality Control
  • Act as the final line of defense for quality assurance, ensuring all restorations meet exact specifications before leaving the lab.

  • Serve as the main point of contact for clinical clients, addressing technical case questions or complex prescriptions directly with doctors.

  • Monitor and analyze remake rates, implementing swift corrective actions to fix any recurring technical errors.

Qualifications
  • Experience: 5+ years of operational management experience within a commercial dental laboratory, with at least 2 years in a General Manager or Lab Director capacity.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of full-service dental laboratory workflows, including fixed prosthodontics, implants, and digital workflows.

  • Leadership Style: A visible, communicative leader who spends time on the lab floor, not just behind a desk.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong business acumen with the ability to balance technical quality with operational speed and financial efficiency.
