Job Description
Position Overview
The IT Onboarding & Deployment Technician/Desktop Support resource will provide onsite support for new hire onboarding activities and desktop deployment services. This individual will be responsible for executing all hands-on tasks related to workstation preparation, imaging, asset management, shipping logistics, and onsite support to ensure a seamless onboarding experience for employees. The technician will work closely with current onsite resource, who will provide remote support, technical guidance, and system configuration services. This role is focused on physical device preparation and deployment activities that require an onsite presence.
Key Responsibilities
New Hire Processing & Deployment
- Retrieve IT equipment, including laptops, monitors, docking stations, and peripherals, from inventory or storage locations.
- Perform OEM hardware diagnostics (e.g., Dell Pre-Boot Diagnostics) to verify device readiness prior to deployment.
- Execute workstation imaging using Endpoint Central in accordance with established build procedures and standards.
- Initial imaging training and demonstration will be provided by current onsite resource.
- Apply asset tags and identification labels to all assigned equipment.
- Provide asset tag information and equipment details to current onsite resource for inventory registration, asset tracking, and system documentation.
- Ensure devices are powered on and connected to the network following imaging to facilitate remote configuration activities.
- Coordinate with current onsite resource to enable remote access after imaging is complete.
- Current onsite resource will perform all remaining system configuration and setup activities remotely.
- Once configuration is complete, the onboarding ticket will be transitioned back to the onsite technician for final deployment activities.
- Package laptops, monitors, keyboards, mice, headsets, and other peripherals for shipment.
- Coordinate shipping logistics to ensure equipment is delivered to new hires in advance of their start dates.
- Provide onsite workstation setup and deployment support for employees located at Headquarters as needed.
Asset Management & Equipment Handling
- Maintain accurate inventory control and asset tracking procedures.
- Verify equipment readiness and completeness prior to shipment or deployment.
- Assist with equipment staging, organization, and storage management.
- Ensure all hardware is handled, labeled, and documented according to company standards.
Communication & Coordination
- Maintain regular communication with other onsite resource regarding ticket status, deployment progress, and any blockers.
- Escalate issues, exceptions, or questions promptly to ensure timely resolution.
- Confirm completion of assigned tasks before transitioning or closing tickets.
- Support adherence to onboarding schedules and new hire start dates.
- Deliver a high level of customer service and professionalism wen interacting with employees and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Experience in desktop support, hardware deployment, IT provisioning, or technical support.
- Familiarity with workstation imaging and deployment processes.
- Experience handling IT assets and inventory management.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow documented procedures and technical instructions.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to lift, move, and transport computer equipment as needed.
- Experience with Endpoint Central, Dell hardware diagnostics, and enterprise onboarding processes is preferred.
