The Safety Coordinator is responsible for planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive range of health, safety, and environmental programs — with the goal of achieving the highest possible degree of employee safety. This is a hands-on leadership role with daily involvement across operations and maintenance teams. The successful candidate will be a self-starting professional comfortable leading safety training, designing measurement frameworks, and conducting routine safety inspections.

Every employee is expected to follow safety policies and safe work methods, promptly correct or report hazards, report injuries for prompt diagnosis and treatment, and actively contribute ideas for safety process improvement.

Essential Functions

Training & Onboarding

  • Delivers safety training for all employees, including new employee orientation and monthly recurring safety training
  • Coordinates CPR/first aid certification classes
  • Assists with onboarding as needed, including translation support

Safety Committee & Compliance

  • Chairs the Safety Committee, maintaining agendas and meeting minutes
  • Participates and presents at monthly corporate safety meetings
  • Stays current on state and federal health and safety regulations, including hearing conservation and respiratory/air quality standards
  • Oversees chemical management in relation to Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and safe use requirements
  • Suggests revisions to production methods and employee activities that fall outside health and safety codes
  • Consults with Director of Operations on implementation of new safety procedures

Audits, Inspections & Emergency Preparedness

  • Schedules and performs safety audits; logs and tracks all findings
  • Conducts emergency drills (fire, weather) to ensure employee readiness
  • Inspects working conditions to ensure compliance with all applicable safety guidelines

Incident Management & Workers' Compensation

  • Participates in incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions
  • Tracks and maintains records of near misses, property damage, and OSHA/DART injuries
  • Provides weekly incident and injury management updates to leadership
  • Supports injured employees through care coordination: physical therapy scheduling, first aid, and work accommodations
  • Manages the full workers' compensation program: claim entry, claim management review, and Report of Workability
  • Accompanies employees seeking medical attention for work-related injuries
  • Maintains OSHA visual safety incident maps and internal incident tracking website
  • Compiles, analyzes, interprets, and reports on accidents, property, and injury data
  • Assists corporate legal department with health and safety-related legal matters as needed

Equipment & Supplies

  • Manages forklift safety software, including implementation, incident follow-up, and leadership reporting
  • Works with Purchasing and vendors to order safety supplies, trial new safety products, and manage PPE inventory

Education, Experience & Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong working knowledge of state and federal safety regulations (OSHA standards)
  • Ability to read and interpret legal and federal OSHA documents
  • Knowledge of appropriate emergency protocols and legal repercussions of workplace accidents
  • Familiarity with job site machinery and production operations

Preferred

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in the health and safety field
  • Previous management or supervisory experience

  • Clear, effective communication — written and verbal, including public speaking
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access
  • Experience with documentation systems and computer databases
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, and able to prioritize independently
  • Ability to build cooperative working relationships across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in emergency situations

Physical Demands

This role requires the ability to occasionally stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment

The Safety Coordinator will work in a manufacturing plant environment with time split between active job site monitoring and office-based administrative work. Proper safety gear must be worn at all times on the floor. Occasional travel to satellite facilities may be required. This is a standard 40-hour workweek position with moderate exposure to VDTs (Video Display Terminals).
