Position Summary:
The Director of Rehabilitation is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the rehabilitation department, ensuring high-quality patient care and compliance with all regulatory and clinical standards. This leadership role includes supervision of therapy staff, coordination of therapy services, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and occasional direct patient care within the scope of practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and direction to the rehabilitation team to ensure effective and efficient delivery of therapy services.
- Coordinate scheduling and caseload management for all therapy disciplines to meet patient needs and maximize outcomes.
- Ensure documentation is accurate, timely, and compliant with facility, payer, and regulatory guidelines.
- Support staff development through training, mentorship, performance evaluations, and continuing education opportunities.
- Monitor departmental productivity, budget adherence, and key performance indicators.
- Act as a liaison between rehabilitation services and other departments, promoting collaboration and continuity of care.
- Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and patient/family education as appropriate.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA, CMS, and professional practice standards.
- Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and retaining qualified rehabilitation professionals.
- Provide direct patient treatment when needed, within the Physical Therapist Assistant’s scope of practice and under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
Qualifications:
- Current and active state licensure as a PT, OT, SLP, OTA or PTA.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience; prior leadership or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of therapy regulations, reimbursement, and documentation standards (Medicare/Medicaid, SNF PPS, PDPM, etc.).
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team with professionalism and accountability.
- CPR certification and other credentials as required by state/facility.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in skilled nursing, home health, or inpatient rehab settings.
- Familiarity with EMR systems and therapy management software.
- Demonstrated leadership in quality improvement initiatives or program development.
