We are seeking a motivated Designer I to join our Design Lab team. This role is responsible for creating formulations that meet customer specifications by applying established technology protocols and design principles. The Designer I will work closely with senior designers, project coordinators, sales teams, and laboratory leadership to develop innovative solutions that meet customer requirements while supporting quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Create product formulations that meet customer specifications using established design rules and technology protocols
- Support product development projects under the direction of senior design team members
- Utilize product design software and laboratory systems to document formulations, testing results, and project activities
- Operate laboratory equipment and perform testing required to evaluate product performance and quality
- Follow project prioritization processes to ensure timely completion of assigned work and communicate project risks or delays as needed
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure successful product development throughout the product lifecycle
- Build strong working relationships with technical, quality, and commercial team members
- Support technology development initiatives by identifying gaps and assisting with the development of new design protocols and testing methods
- Author technical reports and document process changes, observations, and test results
- Participate in training and professional development activities
- Follow all quality system requirements, safety protocols, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor's degree in a science-related field preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in product design, quality testing, technical laboratory work, or related roles; degree holders with limited experience will also be considered
- Laboratory experience in plastics, color, paints, inks, custom compounding, or similar industries preferred
- Ability to pass the Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue Test used to detect color vision deficiency
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Intermediate to advanced mathematical skills, including algebra and statistics
- Ability to learn color matching systems and product design software
- Occasional travel may be required
