About this job

The Urology Clinic treats adults with a wide range urinary tract . These include common problems such as kidney and bladder stones, urinary tract infections, and urinary incontinence, and less common ones, such as obstructions of the urinary tract and painful bladder syndromes. In men, we provide treatment for benign conditions of the prostate gland, erectile dysfunction, and male infertility. Our team is also nationally known for expert repair of traumatic injuries to the genitals and urinary tract. Redwood Shores Urology Practice additionally provides pediatric urologic care.

 

•Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care

•Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required

•Performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision

•Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team

  • Provides emotional and psychological support to the urology patient and the      family. 
  • Communicates by phone, fax, email, or mail. 
  • Fosters continuity of care within the healthcare system. 
  • Serves as a patient advocate within the health care system

  • Documents all nursing actions taken in APEX
  • Obtain insurance authorization for urology medications 
  • Respond to clinic emergencies (Code Blue, acute symptoms during clinic visit, etc.)

  • Develop patient education materials for the teams.

  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate with patients both by telephone, in person and in writing using MyChart in clear, easy to understand and grammatically correct language as an essential function of their job. This includes being able to write clinical instructions that may not be possible using APeX smart phrases and other technical shortcuts.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Two years full-time RN experience in an adult pediatric ambulatory clinical setting, or Emergency Department (ED)
  • Two years full-time RN experience in a pediatric ambulatory clinical setting, or Emergency Department (ED)
  • Two years procedural experience with adults or pediatric patients in an ambulatory clinical setting, or Emergency Department (ED)
  • Experience with Urologic procedures (i.e. cystoscopy, urodynamics, uroflow / PVR)
  • Active licensure as a Registered Nurse as defined by the California Board of Registered Nursing
  • Active CPR/BLS Certification
  • Prior experience working on process/quality improvement projects
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary setting
  • Knowledge and ability are essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position; reecent experience in the use of electronic medical record documentation

     

  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and all service lines at Redwood Shores

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing

  • Five years pediatric and adult clinical procedural experience

     

  • Ten years of RN experience

  • Knowledge of UCSF and APEX

  • Proficiency in handling sterile equipment

  • Knowledge of sterile processing

  • Experience with PRP procedures

  • Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification (AMB-BC) or other applicable certification

     

 

License/Certifications:

  • Active licensure as a Registered Nurse as defined by the California Board of Registered Nursing
  • Active CPR/BLS Certification
