The Welding Lab Assistant supports the daily operations of the Welding Technology program by assisting with metal preparation, project fabrication, equipment organization, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment. 

Key Responsibilities


Job duties may include:

  • Assist with metal preparation and fabrication projects using welding lab equipment and tools.
  • Prepare materials for class projects using equipment such as bandsaws, ironworkers, and other approved shop tools.
  • Support instructors with lab setup, cleanup, and organization before and after classes or projects.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe welding lab workspaces.
  • Assist with organizing materials, tools, equipment, and welding supplies.
  • Perform general shop maintenance and basic equipment care according to department procedures.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, equipment procedures, and departmental policies at all times.
  • Wear required protective clothing and properly use provided safety equipment.
  • Report damaged equipment, safety concerns, or maintenance issues to instructors or staff.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with instructors, staff, and fellow students.
  • Assist with lifting, moving, and organizing materials and equipment as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by department instructors and/or staff.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

No previous work experience is required - training will be provided! We are looking for someone who is dependable, willing to learn, able to follow directions, and works well with others in a professional office environment.

  • Basic working knowledge of office equipment, including computers, copiers, printers, and telephones.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information and follow confidentiality requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of shop safety procedures and metalworking tools.
  • Interest in developing advanced welding and fabrication skills for future employment opportunities.

Physical Demands and Work Environment


This position is performed in an active welding lab and shop environment with regular exposure to noise, dust, heat, and industrial equipment. Duties require frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and repetitive hand movements throughout work shifts. The employee may regularly lift or move materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds with or without assistance. Proper work clothing, safety shoes, and required protective equipment must be worn at all times, with safety gear provided by the department. 

Available hours:
Monday - Friday:  2:00 - 4:00 PM

Student employees can work up to 20 hours per week. Your work schedule will be based on your availability and the staffing needs of that department.
