As a Pharmacy Technician, you will work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assisting with medication preparation, compounding, dispensing, inventory management, and medication delivery while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, quality, and compliance.
What You'll DoMedication Preparation & Dispensing
- Enter and maintain medication data within EPIC.
- Prepare, compound, and dispense medications according to pharmacy policies and regulatory requirements.
- Complete sterile compounding training and prepare sterile, chemotherapy, and hazardous medication preparations as appropriate.
- Retrieve, count, package, and prepare medications for pharmacist verification.
- Accurately fill medication orders and prescriptions in a timely manner.
- Prepare medications for delivery, shipping, curbside pickup, or home delivery when required.
Inventory & Quality Management
- Receive, stock, and maintain pharmaceutical inventory.
- Ensure medication security and compliance with storage requirements.
- Retrieve and process unused medications for appropriate credit.
- Monitor assigned areas for expired medications and maintain quality assurance standards.
- Follow hazardous waste procedures and maintain the cleanliness and safety of equipment and work areas.
Patient & Customer Support
- Assist with medication delivery to patient care areas and customers.
- Complete patient follow-up calls when appropriate.
- Prioritize tasks effectively based on patient needs and operational demands.
- Deliver exceptional customer service with every interaction.
Teamwork & Process Improvement
- Participate in departmental meetings, huddles, and process improvement initiatives.
- Collect data for medication-use evaluations and performance improvement projects.
- Assist in training and onboarding new pharmacy team members.
- Communicate effectively between shifts to ensure seamless operations and patient care.
- Complete department orientation and technician training programs.
- Meet all hospital and department-specific competency and education requirements.
- Complete EPIC training and pharmacy work-area competencies.
- Successfully complete department-approved sterile compounding training.
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of hospital pharmacy experience or equivalent experience required.
Licensure
- Active registration and good standing with the State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician, or willingness to obtain registration by the first day of employment, including completion of the required FBI fingerprint background check.
Certification
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required within six months of hire.
We're looking for candidates who demonstrate:
- Advanced knowledge of pharmacy dispensing and compounding procedures.
- Experience with pharmacy automation systems, robotic dispensing equipment, and automated dispensing cabinets.
- Proficiency with EPIC, electronic health records, pharmacy software, and communication tools.
- Strong understanding of inventory control, prescription adjudication, copay assistance, financial assistance programs, and point-of-sale processes.
- Ability to troubleshoot pharmacy technology and related software.
- Ability to interpret medical information, laboratory values, and other patient-related data to support pharmacist decision-making.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively under time constraints.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and teamwork skills.
- The ability to train and mentor new pharmacy team members.
