Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Operator-in-Training to join its wastewater operations team in San Marcos, Texas. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to build a career in wastewater treatment and municipal utility operations while gaining hands-on experience in plant operations, equipment maintenance, laboratory testing, and process monitoring.
Working on the overnight shift, the successful candidate will support the safe and efficient operation of a wastewater treatment facility while learning industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant equipment and systems.
- Monitor plant processes to ensure effective treatment of wastewater, sludge, and effluent.
- Operate pumps, valves, motors, and related treatment equipment.
- Observe plant operating conditions and respond appropriately to process changes.
- Read and interpret gauges, meters, instruments, and control systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance activities and basic equipment inspections.
- Collect wastewater samples and maintain accurate sample logs and records.
- Conduct routine quality control testing and document results.
- Enter operational and maintenance data into computerized management systems.
- Support municipal facility operations and respond to operational challenges as needed.
- Follow all environmental, safety, and operational procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support plant operations.
Required Qualifications
- Basic experience in wastewater treatment plant operations or a related industrial, utility, or environmental field.
- Basic computer proficiency, including:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Data entry and record management systems
- Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
- Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team on overnight shifts.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current TCEQ Class D Wastewater Operator License or actively working toward obtaining certification.
- Basic understanding of wastewater treatment processes and operations.
- Familiarity with pumps, valves, motors, and mechanical equipment used in municipal treatment facilities.
- Interest in pursuing a long-term career in wastewater operations or environmental services.
Important Assignment Information
- This position is covering a temporary vacancy due to an employee currently on medical leave.
- Assignment length may be shorter or longer than anticipated depending on the employee's return-to-work status.
