Chief Investment Officer
Position Overview
Based out of Los Angeles, we are a growing, respected Multifamily Real Estate Developer with highly efficient, cost-effective operations throughout Southern California. We are seeking an experienced Chief Investment Officer (CIO) to lead our investment strategy and execution. The CIO will define investment objectives, oversee portfolio construction and risk management, and drive performance across asset classes. This role requires a strategic leader with deep expertise in investments, financial modeling, and advanced Excel skills, and a proven track record of delivering returns while managing risk. Experience in real estate and multifamily investments, portfolio management, and acquisitions is a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the firms investment strategy, aligning objectives with risk tolerance, liquidity needs, and long-term goals.
- Lead portfolio construction and asset allocation decisions, continuously optimizing for risk-adjusted returns.
- Oversee investment research and due diligence processes, including valuation, financial modeling, and scenario analysis.
- Build, mentor, and manage the investment team; set performance expectations and professional development plans.
- Drive investment selection, monitoring, and rebalancing across public and private markets, including real estate and multifamily where applicable.
- Manage relationships with external managers, brokers, advisors, and counterparties; negotiate terms and oversee onboarding.
- Establish and maintain rigorous risk management frameworks and reporting; ensure compliance with regulatory and fiduciary obligations.
- Prepare and present clear investment reports and recommendations to the executive team and board of directors.
- Lead acquisition evaluations and integration plans for new assets and portfolios when applicable.
- Continuously improve investment processes, tools (including Excel-based models), and governance practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field required; MBA, CFA, or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive investment experience with demonstrated leadership in portfolio management or investment strategy roles.
- Proven expertise in investments, advanced financial modeling, and high-level Excel skills (complex modeling, VBA a plus).
- Strong analytical skills with experience in valuation methodologies, stress testing, and scenario analysis.
- Track record of driving performance and managing risk across multi-asset portfolios.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; experience reporting to senior management and boards.
- Experience with real estate investments, particularly multifamily assets, and acquisitions is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage external partners, and execute transactions from sourcing through closing.
- High ethical standards, fiduciary mindset, and familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements.
