Purpose

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) acts as a vital clinical partner within the medical practice, delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care. Operating under the direction of attending physicians, this professional seamlessly bridges front-office logistics with critical back-office clinical responsibilities. From performing point-of-care diagnostics and assisting with complex urological procedures to managing sterile room preparation and patient flow, this role is essential for maintaining strict infection control, optimizing clinical throughput, and ensuring an exceptional patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Patient Care & Triage: Escort patients to examination rooms, coordinate daily patient flow, and accurately capture comprehensive medical histories, chief complaints, and baseline vital signs.
  • Clinical Procedures & Phlebotomy: Perform precise venipuncture/phlebotomy, execute EKGs, and process Level 1 laboratory screenings. Safely administer injectable medications and vaccines under the direct supervision of a physician.
  • Physician Assistance: Prepare specialized urological instruments, set up clinical exam rooms according to specific procedural protocols, and provide direct hands-on assistance to physicians during complex outpatient procedures.
  • Sterilization & Infection Control: Clean and sanitize procedure rooms, clinical instruments, and diagnostic equipment between patient encounters to strictly adhere to established health system and regulatory guidelines.
  • Front-Office Coordination: Manage precise electronic chart preparation, retrieve external laboratory or imaging reports, route clinical telephone triage inquiries, and provide essential patient education instructions as directed.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Document all clinical interventions, vitals, and specimen collections inside the Electronic Health Record (EHR) while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, and Department of Health regulations.
Minimum Essential Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year experience as a Certified Medical Assistant within a specialized surgical or outpatient clinical setting.
  • Formal Education: Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is required.
  • Professional Credential: Must hold an active, valid national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
  • Technical Compliance: Solid foundational knowledge of clinical medical terminology, medication administration protocols, and standard diagnostic/treatment room procedures. Basic computer proficiency required.
