Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking an Operator-in-Training to support the operation and maintenance of a municipal wastewater treatment facility in Pampa, Texas. This position is ideal for candidates pursuing a career in water and wastewater operations and provides hands-on experience with treatment processes, equipment maintenance, quality testing, and regulatory compliance.
The successful candidate will work alongside experienced operators to help ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted wastewater treatment operations while gaining valuable industry experience.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Operations
- Assist in the operation and monitoring of wastewater treatment processes.
- Control and monitor the flow and treatment of wastewater, sludge, and effluent.
- Observe operating conditions and interpret meter, gauge, and instrument readings.
- Monitor equipment performance and report abnormal operating conditions.
- Support plant operations to ensure compliance with operational and environmental standards.
Maintenance & Equipment Support
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on plant equipment.
- Assist with maintenance and repair activities involving pumps, motors, valves, and treatment systems.
- Support troubleshooting efforts and help implement corrective actions.
- Maintain equipment reliability through effective preventive maintenance practices.
Laboratory & Quality Control
- Collect water and wastewater samples for testing and analysis.
- Assist with quality control testing and documentation.
- Maintain accurate operational records and shift logs.
- Enter operational and maintenance data into computerized maintenance management systems.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and safe work practices.
- Utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate in safety meetings and training programs.
- Promote a safe work environment and actively support team safety initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, operational, and company standards.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic experience working in water or wastewater treatment operations.
- Basic understanding of wastewater treatment processes and equipment.
- Familiarity with valves, pumps, motors, and treatment systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer applications.
- Ability to enter and maintain data within maintenance management systems.
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Current water/wastewater operator certification or actively pursuing first-level certification.
- Knowledge of safe work practices and industrial safety procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in municipal utilities, wastewater treatment, water treatment, industrial operations, or environmental services.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and environmental monitoring requirements.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, climb, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the workday.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to loud noise, moving machinery, high-pressure systems, electrical equipment, chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, and confined spaces.
- Ability to work at heights and in restricted-access areas when required.
- Must be able to safely use required PPE and safety equipment.
- Physical stamina and dexterity required to perform plant operation and maintenance duties.
