About this job
Job Description
The Studio
Hyland is a multidisciplinary design practice working between Prescott, Arizona and Abu Dhabi, UAE. Our clients are institutional, including governments, global stakeholders, organizations doing work that matters. We design the documents they think with and the presentations they decide with.
We are small. The work is not.
The Work
Annual reports. Policy documents. Books. High-stakes presentations for rooms you won’t be in but will shape the outcome of. Packaging final arts. Branding concepts. This is editorial design at its most consequential. Dense information made clear, structured, and precise.
You will typeset 200-page reports. You will build presentation decks that carry the weight of the content, not fight against it. You will work across InDesign, Keynote, PowerPoint, and whatever the project demands, because the craft matters more than the software.
If you care about rags, grids, widows, orphans, and the difference a paper stock makes, keep reading.
What We Need
A designer whose primary discipline is typography and editorial layout. Someone who can take a 90-page stakeholder brief and make it legible, navigable, and beautiful without stripping it of its complexity.
You should be fast and fluent in InDesign. You should understand print production, binding, and prepress. You should be able to build a presentation deck that doesn’t look like it was built from a template. Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma are other tools in your belt.
You work autonomously. You take a brief, ask the right questions, and deliver work that doesn’t need to be redone.
The Studio
This is an onsite role. We work together, in the same room, reviewing prints on the wall and type on the screen. Our studio includes a letterpress workshop – not as a novelty, but because we believe understanding type at its most physical makes you a better designer at its most digital.
Compensation is competitive and based on experience.
